Screened: "The Made for TV Election"

Group confirmed previous votes for allocation funds were in fact motions that passed in votes, even if the minutes weren’t all fancy-pantsy about it.
Selected screening for tonight longer than most, so not much in way of discussion occurred.
Next screening to be determined via Facebook group participatory vote, as few were in attendance. Those up for grabs are “Rivers and Tides” and “Helvetica” at this point. Decision to be made by Sun, Nov. 2.

Screenings will continue to be in GSC MPR. Weds. 815pm.

Group confirmed the next theme will be decided on Oct 22nd.
Group popcorn preference. Exact budget allocation voted on was largest quantity available for around $30. Treasurer will use Pitzer’s Costco card to buy.
Secretary will again try to acquire JPEG template for posters.

Next week will be in Gold Student Center Multipurpose Room (unless in the very rare chance there is a severe heat wave).

Newbies aka people who viewed the documentary and whose names were not recorded all confirmed that Weds 8:15pm for screenings is manageable.

Group decided the next theme will be decided on Oct 23rd.
Group discussed refreshments and decided on popcorn. Exact budget allocation to be voted on.
Secretary will attempt to acquire JPEG template for posters on Sat. If not acquired, Celeste and Maddie will battle it out.
Maddie will provide documentary index type book for further listing of documentaries of interest.

Budget is limited, agreed to seek partnership with other clubs on relevant themes for additional funding for refreshments/snacks

Discussion: Themes for screenings: Should they be organized by month? Not necessarily; they should be by number of films available.

Proposed themes:

Group moved to Audio Visual office to create shelf for films to use
SFX reserved The Mounds and GSC and relevant equipment for screenings

Secretary will email political science/studies professors for opinions/input on the selected films for this theme

At a further date, other clubs will be contacted regarding partnering in advertising and refreshment funding when themes come up

Because our agenda is propagating knowledge, we will cooperate with anyone (club, group, major department, etc.) with a topic that is of strong interest to the Pitzer community: for example, if we (as we plan do) conduct a month of films relating to gender issues, we would seek out the Feminist Coalition to recommend films, attend the screenings and engage other attendees in discussion.
In addition, because the location of screenings would not necessarily be fixed, we could show films in certain residence halls with their sponsorship if desired.

Shot For Exposure - Charter

I. Name: Shot for Exposure (SFX)

II. Mission Statement:

An effective individual agent of social change requires the knowledge of issues worth pursing and the contextual background to know where and how their efforts should be implemented. Documentaries were shot to expose different aspects of society and provide research that informs about particular issues.
It is our role as a club to promote the spread of information that is captured by documentary filmmakers and spread the results of their efforts to the Pitzer community and general public. With the knowledge obtained from the screenings and enrichment offered through free dialogue afterward, this club seeks to provide a safe and open yet intellectually challenging environment to discuss the issues addressed within the documentaries and lead to the potential for change and a more informed dialogue on campus.

III. Goals:
• provide meaningful, thought-provoking films that document personal, social, cultural, historical, or political issues to enrich dialogue on campus with facts, examples and a knowledge of previous works on the subjects
• open up discussion about the screened documentaries in order for any individual to freely share their opinion and reflect on the film’s concerns
• provide outlets and resources for those motivated to further explore or seek change regarding issues brought up by shown films
• screen documentaries at a regular time weekly to provide this education and discussion and to allow for both a regular turn-out and a known, accessible outlet for “walk-ins” to spend their time informatively

IV. Meetings:

SFX will have meetings around the middle of each month to determine the theme for the next month’s block of documentary films. Proposals can be made by any in attendance so long as they have attended at least one meeting or screening within the past month.
Meetings can be proposed in response to emergent issues to change slated documentaries due to changing concerns in news. For instance, if the United States declared war on Iran, a meeting could be arranged to change the current month’s topic to one focusing on Middle Eastern conflicts and American relations in that region.

V. Officials
• President: in charge of announcing meetings in session, calling meetings if topics are to be changed to incorporate new world events, breaking voting ties, and organizing the documentary list
• Vice President: assists president with duties while and managing meetings in the absence of the president
• Secretary/Treasurer: Takes attendance and notes proposals and keeps track of monetary funds. (Note: If this position needs to be broken up in two, it can be done by vote.)
• Publicity Manager: A graphical-design oriented position that creates the posters to be used (and spreads club news.

VI. Events:
Screenings will centralize around a particular theme each month.
Each of the four to five screenings will provide a different outlook, approach or information about the issue/s addressed. SFX will also seek out members of the faculty, featured filmmakers or others familiar with the topics to recommend films and contribute to discussions afterwards.
